Light Hive - 2015
Palo Alto, CA, USA

Architect: Gensler-Dallas

Made up of a closely assembled network of tubes with lighting subtly emanating from within each, this piece exists at the boundary between assemblage and object. During the day, the vertical tube elements that make up the piece are perceived as a texture for the overall form. During the night, the vertical textures become concealed in shadow while the glowing interior surfaces of the tubes begin to glow; highlighting the porosity of the form. Through the night and over a period of hours, the lighting subtly begins to shift in intensity, location, and (possibly) color.
